The rapidly developing IT sector, which is developing seven times faster than other sectors of the economy, provides an unprecedented opportunity to facilitate competitiveness, as well as smart, sustainable and inclusive growth of the European Union (EU). The main advantage of the digital economy is its ability to create high added value and knowledge-based products. Concurrently, in order to create prerequisites for successful development of this sector, the EU has to take joint and active effort in streamlining the legal framework, as well as using to the full extent the advantages offered by the single market.
The Meeting of the Chairpersons of the Committees on Economic and Digital Affairs organised by the Saeima will gather chairmen of the relevant sectoral committees from EU’s national parliaments, members of the European Parliament, as well as experts and high public officials. This meeting will give participants a chance to discuss matters pertaining to the digital economy, such as big data and cloud computing, security and privacy, as well as education and employment in a digital economy.
